for choreographers

Black Box Movers is dedicated to providing accessible and beneficial opportunities for choreographers. Our goal is to provide real-world experiences before the pressures of a real contract. These experiences are provided through showcase, classes/workshops, galas, and more. Choreographers are at the heart of our organization. See how you can get involved creatively!

Annual Spring Showcase

Submit an application to create and present work at our Annual Spring Showcase at The Riverside Theater. Work is a maximum of 8-minutes long, and should be a representation of a full-musical number that would be found in a piece of musical theater. Pieces are asked to include singing in an effort for the choreographer to learn how to collaborate with a Music Director. Performers should be directed through singing, acting, and choreography to produce this performance. This is an annual opportunity that is free to participate. We work to give choreographers to stipends to off-set rehearsal studio expenses.

Past participants are welcomed to apply— but we will prioritize new choreographers. We do try to offer one alumni slot each year.

2027 Choreographer Applications will open in December.
